Mental illness is not a cast. Everyone has mental detriments from time to time. According to Hopkins Medicine, an estimate of 26% Americans of above 18 years, about 1 in 4 suffer a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year
My name is Britney Gooch, and I help transform people’s lives by ensuring overall mental health. I am a professional in the field, entrepreneur, and author. After going through so many hurdles in life, I believe it is my purpose to help people going through mental breakdowns. It might be depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, among others.
This roller coaster called life can inflict too much pressure on us. It is worth noting that it is okay to face mental detriment. Everyone needs emotional support at one time or another so remember, you can only thrive in life if you are okay mentally.
Mental Breakdown
I have gone through so much in life from an early age. I went through a failed marriage and relationships that I fell into depression. I knew that I needed help.
My emotional torture started way young, as my siblings and I witnessed how our mother silently suffered from my father’s infidelity. I thus adopted bad defensive habits to guard my heart. I got married at 22 and divorced a year later, having gone through infidelity in our marriage. Censured by what was happening, I got into another relationship that happened to be violent. I also faced rape at one point in my life.
All these happenings led me to a deeper depression.
I sought help, started journaling, reading Bible verses, and writing my book, “Putting on Face.” I slowly started healing and became more self-aware.
Giving Back
Now I have my mental clinics to help others deal with mental issues. I try to understand their journey on a personal level. I also am transparent with my journey to give hope to the hopeless.
Sharing my experience with them helps us resonate with each other. People highly relate to personal stories other than researched facts.
My coaching is also solution-based. I don’t just address the issues or the problems I have faced, I provide solutions on how to overcome various situations. Each chapter of my book has a theme, and a journaling section to make it more applicable to yourself.
Putting on Face
Putting on Face is my book that talks of all life struggles and my recovery journey. It is simply about the scars I hid behind a smile. Every chapter of the book is relatable. Anyone, regardless of their age, can find comfort and peace in the book that they can overcome.
The book goes hand in hand with my business and being a mental expert. My life is -purely branded. Remember, personal development is vital, and never forget who you are.
My advice to anyone writing a book and who wants to self-publish is to get a marketing team and leverage social media. A great marketing strategy and consistency will be key to your success.
Take-Out:
My advice to you facing life struggles is to take a minute and work on yourself. Work on yourself first before you move forward. If you ignore your status, you will bleed on others and affect your future relationships. It would also be best to focus on things that matter the most.
I have been fearlessly walking through this journey as I now know my personality, who I am, and my purpose in life.
